Radio-Video Streams

Nielsen Audio uses the term ‘radio-video stream’ to refer to streaming media that includes a radio station’s live on-air audio synchronized to a video program that includes images related to the radio station, the radio program, or the program’s on-air talent. In its databases, systems, and reports, Nielsen Audio will denote an FM station’s radio-video stream with the radio station’s FCC-designated four letter call sign followed by the band identifier ‘F8’ (e.g. ‘WAAA-F8’) and an AM station’s radio-video stream with the radio station’s four letter call sign followed by the band identifier ‘A8.’ Nielsen Audio is evaluating additional long-term options on how to identify radio-video streams, and other forms of the station’s stream, in its databases, systems, and reports.

Updates in Tapscan 11

Change to reporting PPM weekly cume estimates in schedules and research reports

Currently in Tapscan 10.8, and all versions prior to Tapscan 11, a reporting rule known as the Schedule Cume Rule was established to approximate a Cume value for estimating Reach in schedules and other research reports that contain the Reach estimate. This was applied only in instances where a station’s Cume value was less than its AQH value. In rare situations, stations can have qualified Daily listening that is reported in AQH estimates and have valid zero Weekly Cume as none of the listeners qualified for Weekly Intab for the weekly estimates. For consistency, the appended Schedule Cume value was reported in all research reports under Weekly Cume estimates. This meant that Weekly Cume estimates could differ from what is reported in Analysis Tool and eBook.

With Tapscan 11, we no longer will apply the Schedule Cume Rule to research reports that do not contain a Reach estimate. These estimates will continue to be labeled Weekly Cume. In schedules and research reports that contain the Reach estimate, we have changed the label for Weekly Cume to Schedule Cume to note that it is possible that the Schedule Cume Rule is being applied and will possibly differ from Weekly Cume estimates found in other reports and applications. The reports that now show Schedule Cume are the Scheduler, Benchmark and Spot-Based Table.

Updates in Tapscan 10.8

• An error in the reporting engine behind Tapscan was corrected so that filters with a start age of 6 that produced an average In-Tab of less than 30 can now be reported.

• Estimates for dark or delisted stations are no longer adjusted when multiple surveys are combined.

• Beginning with the June 4, 2011 release of Tapscan v10.8, listening for stations that do not meet minimum reporting standards is now considered when determining preference and exclusivity in the Diary service. Older versions of TAPSCAN do not take into account listening for stations that do not meet minimum reporting standards. This difference may cause older versions to produce higher estimates than Tapscan when preference or exclusivity filters are applied for the same station and survey(s).

Because preference and exclusivity reports are narrow in focus, any difference between the estimates is reduced when using smaller demos, dayparts or geographies.

In the PPM service, there is no change because the reporting engine behind Tapscan already considers all listening when determining preference and exclusivity.
