A Ranker shows the competitive landscape for your market. It can answer basic questions such as "How many listeners do you have?" or "How many people will hear my commercial?"
Use a Ranker to tell stories within a story. Maybe a station isn't great in a broader daypart but is strong in a key, specific daypart. A Ranker can help illustrate this story.
You can view or print PDF versions of each report view. You can also export the report to a comma-delimited .csv file which will look like the table view without formatting.
Both the Table tab and Box tab show multiple demos, multiple dayparts, and multiple estimates in a single report. The difference is in how they are presented.
View samples:
• Ranker table — a vertical orientation that allows you to use the most possible estimates. This is the Ranker report default view.
• Ranker box — a vertical orientation that allows you to use many estimates. Demos and dayparts appear in separate boxes.
• Ranker graph — a horizontal or vertical bar graph of the selected daypart/demo data grid and selected estimate. You can include market and analysis totals by selecting them from the Estimates dialog.
• Box view shows dayparts in a side-by-side orientation, like the traditional TAPSCAN multi-demo/multi-daypart Ranker.
A maximum of four estimates can be viewed at one time. Box view is not available when running the National Regional Database (NRD).
• Pop/Intab view provides details about the source used for population, in-tab and any socioeconomic selections. If you subscribe to qualitative data and use a qualitative survey and category in your report, the sourcing summary will show a separate table with the qualitative details.
To create a Ranker report:
1 Create the report:
• Select the Ranker checkbox at the top of the Research tab.
• Click the arrow and select a market from the list.
• Click the Generate Report button.
2 Select a survey from the parameter pane.
3 Change other parameters as desired. (See Related topics... for more information)
4 Click the button.
• Use only those estimates that:
– Are requested.
– You understand.
– You can explain to non-agency clients in an easy-to-understand way.
• Don't cram your Ranker full of estimates just because they are available. Keep it focused on the estimate(s) that allow you to tell your story.
• Don't fall into the common trap of selling solely by Rankers. Your rank position could change, but the number of listeners for your station could remain the same. Using a selection of other reports, a good seller can tell stories in a way that can outsell someone who only uses a Ranker.
